Chapters 4 & 5 of Genesis list the descendants of Adam and Eve down to Noah and his three sons just prior to the great flood. After briefly listing the descendants of their son Cain, these genealogies focus in on the descendants of their son Seth through whose line, Jesus theַ מָשִׁיח māšîaḥ would be born. This passage also contains the story of the first murder.
