Jesus heals many, and then pronounces blessings (beatitudes) upon those who are suffering.

Jesus is called out by the Pharisees for plucking and eating grain and for healing on the Sabbath. In response, Jesus proclaims Himself LORD of the Sabbath.

Jesus calls Levi (Matthew) the tax collector, and dines in his home. When questioned about fasting, He gives the parable of the wineskins – no one puts new wine into old wineskins.

Jesus calls Simon Peter, and the sons of Zebedee – James and John.
He heals a leper and heals and forgives the sins of a paralytic.

Jesus teaches and casts out a demon at the synagogue in Capernaum and then goes to Simon Peter’s house for a meal. Jesus heals Simon’s mother-in-law.

Jesus reads the prophecy of Isaiah 61:1-2 in the synagogue at Nazareth, and proclaims His fulfillment of the prophecy in their presence. The people of Nazareth try to kill Him, but He evades them.

Jesus fasts in the wilderness for forty days following His baptism, and it tempted by the devil. Jesus responds to each of the four temptations by quoting scripture.
Afterward, Jesus begins His Galilean ministry.

Luke gives the genealogy of Jesus back to Adam. We discuss some general concepts surrounding genealogies, and compare some of the genealogies found in the Bible.

John the Baptist continues his ministry. Jesus is baptized, and the Spirit descends upon Him like a dove. Herod Antipas imprisons John for calling him out about his marriage to his brother’s wife Herodias.
