Wednesday, October 7 – Saturday October 10, 2020

These days were the real purpose of our trip – visiting with our Detroit metro area family. It has been over thirteen years since we were last together after Sue’s Mom passed away.

John and Brenda’s

After making our way down to the Detroit metro area from the great multi-colored north, we set up camp at the beautiful wooded home of Sue’s brother John, and sister-in-law Brenda. They treated us like royalty, not only graciously offering their home for use as our “base camp,” but feeding us royally as well.

On Tuesday evening after we set up the camper, the four of us sat on their front deck and in their dining room gabbing and catching up with each other’s lives until nearly 3 AM. Unfortunately, the doggies didn’t take to John and Brenda very well, and were extremely uncomfortable at their home, as you can see.

Wednesday, Sue’s eldest brother Ron and his wife Lynn came down to spend the day with us at John and Brenda’s. John showed me his magnificent collection of antique outboard motors dating back to the 1920s, and in the evening Brenda cooked us a wonderful meal of Chicken Paprikash over homemade spaetzle followed by her patented Crack Cake. Thursday morning (late), Brenda treated us to biscuits and sausage gravy. Even though she’s not Southern, they were pretty darn good. Afterward, we headed up to the city to visit with Sue’s sister Jean, and her family.

On Friday, Sue’s old friend Pam and her fiance Dean treated us to dinner at Buddy’s Pizza in Woodhaven, Michigan where we stuffed ourselves on their specialty 4 x 4 pan pizzas, and spent a pleasant evening catching up with Pam, and getting acquainted with Dean. On Saturday – our last full day in the Detroit area, we spent the morning shopping, and stopped by one of the local orchards for some apples, apple cider, and nummy apple pastries. In the afternoon, we visited a little while longer with Jean and family at their home. Sunday morning we packed up the camper, and spent the rest of the morning chatting some more with Brenda and John before reluctantly bidding our farewells and heading out for Cleveland, Ohio about noon.
